Prostate Cancer Prevention - 8 Ways to Possibly Avoid it

Fruits and vegetables can lower your risk but red meat and dairy will make it higher. Your diet and lifestyle have a larger impact than you think.

While there’s no foolproof way to completely avoid prostate cancer, there are some things you can do to reduce your risk of getting prostate cancer. They’re listed below:

Eat tomatoes

Tomatoes, especially the ones cooked in olive oil are a great way to prevent prostate cancer. Though there’s still research going on behind this reason, studies have shown positive results.

Fruits

Eating fresh fruits instead of pre packaged ones is great for your health.

Vegetables

Vegetables, especially green ones contain compounds that help your body break down carcinogens. A diet that has a fair amount of vegetables will surely help you.

Eat the right fat

Not all fats are the same. Some are good for you while others are harmful. Consume a minimum amount of red meat and dairy products. Fish have good fats, i.e. they’re rich in omega 3 fatty acids, so make sure to have your plate in the right proportion.

Good lifestyle

It is a well known fact that smoking is a leading cause of cancer. Avoid smoking and cut down on alcohol. These habits will not just lower your risk of cancer, but will help you avoid other health risks too.

Proteins

Eat foods like soya, tofu and lentils that are packed with proteins.

Green tea

A 2008 study by Japan Public Health Center showed that men who drink green tea, or take green tea extract supplements, have a lower risk of advanced prostate cancer than those who don’t.

Coffee

Coffee that’s boiled and not filtered has chemicals that possess cancer fighting abilities. The recommended dosage would be 3 cups a day. However, caffeine comes with its own disadvantages when consumed excessively.

Exercise

Regular exercising and working out has proven to reduce the risk of prostate cancer in older men. Besides, being a fitness freak never hurt anyone! So hit the gym and stay fit.

With all these factors in mind, don’t forget to talk to your doctor about it. If you sense any abnormalities in your body, any unexplained pain, it’s a good idea to get checked.
