The number of senior adults seeking treatment for drug addiction will increase by 2020. Additionally the study has also shown a drastic decrease in the number of baby boomers suffering from co-occurring substance abuse disorders. This means that when a person is addicted to substance abuse, it is only a part of disease and at the same time it suffers from other psychological disorder.
At this situation you need to look for a signs of abuse like feeling lethargic and sleepy throughout the day. The person will have mood swings and becomes agitated or gets tensed too often. The addict might also complain of not feeling well. There can incidents of injury and falling. Basically the person will stop socializing and will become a loner.
There can be several causes for this addition; one probable cause can be economic situation where the person faces financial insecurity. Apart from all these there can be changes in their lifestyle like productive people suddenly feel a void in their life or grown up children have moved out. Addiction can be also due to an emotional trauma like death of a close friend or partner, accidents or injuries can trigger them to carry on with drugs in order to overcome these.
It can also be due to influence of aging because they take number of drugs to control heart problems, cholesterol, disease related to age. On the top of all these react to their body differently.
